Obituary for Anne M. Elco

Elco, Anne Marie (nee Stone), of Absecon, peacefully went home to be with her Lord on May 30, 2017. Born to Christopher and Anna Stone (Yann), Anne began her 99-year life’s journey on September 1, 1917. She enthusiastically and proudly called the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia her home. In the same way, this lady with the infectious smile proudly touted her Philly roots and readily enjoyed sharing her memories of those sentimental times. Anne attended All Saints Church and elementary school before moving on to her high school training in commercial business studies. After graduation from commercial school, she became a valued employee with the Philadelphia based offices of the Internal Revenue Service.

During a vacation to the Jersey Shore, Anne met her future husband, Peter Elco. But like many young women of her generation, marriage plans would wait until Pete returned from his service in the Army during World War II. In 1946, Anne married Peter and moved to Atlantic City, where she began her role as wife and mother.

After her children began their educational chores, Anne enjoyed part time employment for many years as the responsible Book Store manager in the Towne of Smithville. Anne also held a notable full-time position in the Atlantic County Clerk’s office until her retirement in 1987. Not ready for retirement, Anne began employment with Fred Poley’s Florist Shoppe in Pleasantville. Over the decades she advanced her civic responsibilities as a long-time member of the Absecon Democratic Club, and Founding Trustee of the highly recognized and successful Granny Club Organization. Anne equally enjoyed travel, as evidenced by her sojourns to the great plains of North Dakota, London England, and many east coast destinations.

Whether raising her four children, spending quality time with co-workers or laughing along-side her family and friends, Anne eagerly welcomed the opportunity to share in the well-being of others through the art of good listening. Although she lived through challenging times, no upsetting experience proved overwhelming for this devoted mother and kind-hearted lady. Anne loved music, literature and the beauty of words. The Big Band sounds led by Glenn Miller, the Dorsey brothers and many others helped form her knowledge and appreciation of exceptional melodies and warm lyrics. Most importantly though, she has been a devoted long-time member of the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church Parish. This time also allowed Anne to devotedly offer and share her deep religious faith with others.

Anne is predeceased by her beloved parents Christopher and Anna Stone, her husband Peter, brothers Edward and Raymond, sisters Catherine and Winnifred, grandson Daniel McGee, and son-in-law Dennis Havens.

Anne is survived by her grateful children: Peter Elco (Joann), Paul Elco, Anne Havens and Kathryn Boice, grandchildren, Lori Rebstock (Kyle), Blaine Elco, Paul Elco (Sharon), Peter Elco (Amy), Anne Marie Price (Raymond), Donald Boice (Rose), and Zachary Boice, also great-grandchildren, Shane Rebstock, Ethan Rebstock, Julie Rebstock, Ryan Elco, Michael Elco, Presley Price, Paige Price, Isla Boice and many nieces, nephews and friends. Anne also holds close her sister-in-law Margie Stone of Philadelphia and cousin Sharlene Little of Pensacola, Florida.

The family extends their grateful appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Absecon Manor, Seashore Gardens, Atlanticare and Royal Suites Living Facilities. We also extend our appreciation to the Compassionate Care Hospice Nurse and Staff.

The family, relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Absecon, NJ on Saturday, June 3 at 11AM. Visitation will take place 8:30AM until 10:45AM. Following the service, Anne interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, NJ
